The Electric car is a very old business

Did you know that in 1884 that the first production-standard electric car capable of being reproduced and sold to the public was unveiled? Did you know that in the early 1900s 1/3 of all vehicles on the road were electric? They started to quickly disappear around 1920 with the introduction of petrol and Henry Ford.

Ferdinand Porsche - founder of the eponymous sports car-produced an electric vehicle called 'P' in 1898, before creating the world's first hybrid offering, which was powered by both electricity and a combustion engine.

Mercedes-Benz also offered up an electric model called the Mercedes Mixte, in 1906. This car was adopted as a taxi in cities and was even developed into a race car in 1907.

We are nearly seeing the reincarnation of old tech. The first pic is a group of working EV trucks in the UK plugged in in 1917.

An electric car (HA) is a car that uses electricity stored in rechargeable batteries (commonly batteries). Electric cars use electric motors instead of internal combustion engines (ICEs).

Conversely, cars that use both (electric motors and MEC) are called hybrid cars and are usually not considered pure HA. Cars with batteries that can be charged and used without MEK are a type of electric vehicles with batteries (purely electric), while they do not consume fuel.

Also, there are electric cars & other vehicles (trains, trucks, buses, etc.) that are electric, have electric motors for acceleration & deceleration, but the current for the electric motors is produced by a generator which is driven by an internal combustion engine (diesel or petrol) i.e. power pair these are diesel electric vehicles (EDMU)

HAs are typically cars, light trucks, bicycles, electric scooters, mini golf carts, forklifts and the like. HAs have been among the cars that have appeared since the early days of motoring and have a higher energy efficiency rating than any car with internal combustion engines.

Terminology

Electric cars are a type of electric vehicle (EV). The term "electric vehicle" refers to any vehicle that uses electric motors as a means of propulsion, while the term "electric car" generally refers to cars with the ability to develop high speeds that are powered by electricity. Low-speed electric vehicles, referred to as motorized four-wheelers in Europe and NEVs in the US, are rechargeable electric micro-cars or city cars with restrictions on their weight, power and maximum speed they are allowed to drive on public roads , where it may vary from country to country.

Although the power source of an electric car is not necessarily a built-in accumulator (battery), electric cars with engines powered by different energy sources are usually referred to by a different name. A HA that carries solar panels to power it is referred to as a solar car and an electric car that is powered by a gasoline generator is a form of hybrid car. An electric car powered by an internal battery is referred to as a battery electric vehicle (BEV).

Most often, the term "electric car" refers to purely electric vehicles powered by an internal battery, but it can also be used for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).

History

NASA's Lunar Rover on the Moon was powered by batteries.

The invention of the first ancestor of the electric car is due to many people. In 1828, Ányos Jedlik from Hungary invented an early electric motor that allowed him to build a small electric car. Between 1832 and 1839, Scotsman Robert Anderson built a crude electric carriage, powered by non-rechargeable batteries. In 1834, Vermont blacksmith Thomas Davenport built a similar contraption, which ran on a small, electrified, circular line. A year later, in 1835, Professor Sibrandus Stratingh from the Netherlands and his assistant Christopher Becker from Germany also built a small electric car that ran on non-rechargeable batteries.

In November 1881, Gustave Trouvé presented an electric car at the Paris International Electricity Exhibition (Exposition internationale d'Électricité de Paris).

In 1884, more than 20 years before the Ford Model T (1908 - 1927), Thomas Parker built a practical electric car in Wolverhampton, using rechargeable batteries he had designed. The 1888 Flocken Elektrowagen was designed by German inventor Andreas Flocken and can be considered the first electric car. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, electric cars were the most popular type of car, as they offered more comfort and were easier to operate than the internal combustion cars of the time. At the beginning of the 20th century there were around 30,000 electric cars.

In 1897, in America and Britain electric cars were used as taxis. In London "Walter Bersey's electric cabs" were the first self-propelled vehicles, when at that time taxis were horse-drawn. In Nea
